Biography of Reverend Jay Broadnax


Pastor of Mt. Pisgah AME Church, Philadelphia PA


Rev. Jay Broadnax was born in Boston MA, and grew up in Newton MA. He is the second son of Paul Broadnax and Mil Brooks Broadnax. He attended Brown University in Providence RI and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science. Rev. Broadnax worked in Information Technology at Polaroid Corporation for 11 years.


He committed his life to Jesus Christ in 1984 and answered a call to the preaching ministry in 1988. Since then, he studied at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and received his Master of Divinity degree from Boston University School of Theology. Rev Broadnax trained for the ministry at St. Paul AME Church in Cambridge MA, where he served for 14 years in various capacities including associate minister, trustee, men's choir director, class leader, and men's fellowship coordinator. Upon completion of his seminary training, he served as pastor of Bethel AME Church in Lynn MA for seven years. While at Bethel, he also served the AME Church as New England Conference Sons of Allen Coordinator and Boston Hartford District Chairman of Christian Education.


While in Boston, Rev. Broadnax served as the Assistant Director for The Black Church Capacity Building Program (BCCBP), a program that provides technical assistance for churches in African American communities that do social outreach ministry in Greater Boston. He then served for two years as the Director of Research at the Emmanuel Gospel Center, a faith-based non profit organization in Boston, MA.


Rev. Broadnax served on the Boards of Directors of the Union Street Corridor Community Development Corporation (CDC), The Community Minority Cultural Center, based in Lynn MA, and Healing Our Land (a faith-based HIV/AIDS ministry) during his tenure as a pastor in Lynn MA. He was also a member of The Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston.


In the spring of 2005, Rev. Broadnax was reassigned to the pastorate of Mount Pisgah AME Church in Philadelphia. He currently serves as The 1st Episcopal District Chairman of Christian Education in The AME Church. He is a member of The Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.


Rev. Broadnax is married to the former Ingrid Rawlins, a Development Officer at The Salvation Army, an Organizational Development Consultant, a Dance Minister, and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. They are the parents of one daughter, Dara Jianna Broadnax.
